Digital Twin Simulation Environment for Aircraft Maintenance

Project

Korean Air SMART MRO
Korean Air is developing Smart MRO with AI-powered predictive maintenance to prevent flight delays. It also plans to use autonomous drones for efficient aircraft inspections, improving safety and efficiency. Related Article (Link)
MORAI provides a digital twin environment along with all the necessary elements for simulation testing, enabling the development and validation of autonomous systems for inspecting aircraft fuselage exteriors using unmanned drones and ground robots.
The Challenge
Cost Issues
Costs for building an environment for operational verification, as well as additional expenses due to equipment damage or malfunctions during testing.
Safety Issues
Risk of injury or property damage caused by collisions between drones, ground robots, and aircraft, as well as potential malfunctions.
Time Consumption
Significant time required for setting up the test environment, changing conditions, and analyzing results.
Why MORAI Digital Twin
01
High-Precision Indoor Digital Twin Environment:
Realistic replication of the actual environment enables efficient maintenance and operational simulations.
02
Comprehensive Equipment Modeling:
Accurate modeling of all essential equipment for Smart MRO, including drones, ground robots, and aviation equipment.
03
Multi-Domain Simulation:
Supports the simulation of complex systems such as autonomous vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles. (UAVs)

Benefits
Provides an integrated platform for managing systems (scheduler, initialization, monitoring) within a digital twin environment. It enables operational environment simulation (scenario creation, external forces, and inspection robot settings) and inspection robot simulation (drone/robot dynamics, collisions, and onboard equipment simulation). Additionally, it supports visualization (3D models, sensors, environmental conditions, and inspection status) to design and validate a stable and efficient maintenance process.
